About this event

Interested in learning more about decorated sugar cookies?! Sweet Legends Bakeshop is here to help! In this 1.5-hour class, we'll cover the basics to sugar cookies (so – yes, it’s beginner friendly!), do some piping practice with Royal Icing, talk about how to strategize the best ways to decorate sugar cookies, and cover the general concepts around dough and icing! Everything you'll need is provided at class along with a live in-person instructor – just bring a smile (and maybe an apron).

We’ll be decorating a “hoppy” Easter theme this time – lots of bunnies gettin’ into all sorts of mischief trying to find carrots while we decorate Easter eggs!

You'll leave class with a great understanding of the basics of sugar cookies plus a few cool techniques we'll cover in class! More details on refunds, things to bring, credits, and FAQs are below - looking forward to having you with us.

The class will be held at The Hibernian Culture Center (80 Magnolia Drive Selden, NY 11784). Nervous about the parking situation? Don’t be! The Parking lot is very large, and there is plenty of street parking around as well.

FAQ

What will I be doing in the class?

Besides having the most fun ever? We will be going over some cookie facts, decorating techniques and you will be decorating your very own set of cookies that you will take home with you that day.

Can I purchase an additional take-home kit?

Yes! Many parents or practicing cookiers purchase additional class kits to take home and re-do the classes. You can purchase an add-on kit during check-out. Your kit will be available at the end of your class - so don't forget it!

Do I need to know how to bake?

Nope! No baking history required. We will have the cookies pre-made for you along with the icing already mixed and colored. Have a little decorating experience under your belt… er… apron? Come on too! I can help with questions on icing mixing and dough spread!

What will we learn in class?

You’ll learn what goes into preparing royal icing, the value of different icing consistencies – we’ll touch on tips and tricks to make your cookies look even better than they taste (and they taste good)! You’ll also learn different decorating techniques depending on the class theme such as marbling, outlining, wet-on-wet, brush embroidery, and painting. Or hey – go off script and make your own designs – it’s your class!

What do I need to bring?

Nothing but a smile! Everything will be provided for you including my (rather tasty) sugar cookies. All you need to do is join us and have fun! Messy decorator? You can bring your own apron or just wear easy-to-wash clothing. There is a handout for reference, so if you wear reading glasses, we'd encourage you to bring them as well. Oh – and bring your phone – I love photos!

What age is best for cookie classes?

Our classes are for almost any age! From youngsters to grandparents - come on in and have some cookie fun with us! Our in-person classes are great for any age; however, for kiddos under 12 a parent must also purchase a ticket and take the class as well - but I promise you this - it's super fun for all involved! If you think your child may be too young to enjoy the in-person class, purchase an additional take-home kit! We'll send you the class Handout, and you can teach your kids in the comfort of your own home.

Can just my child take the class?

For children over 12, you can drop off your child to take the class and return to pick-up in 1.5 hours. Our class locations also have space and refreshments if you'd like to stay and wait for the class, though if you don't purchase your own ticket, you won't be able to participate or "help" your child. If your child is under 12, your adorable kiddo cannot take the class alone. A parent must also purchase a ticket and take the class as well - but I promise you this - it's super fun for all involved!

What will I bring home?

By the end of the class, you will have created a set of gorgeous cookies ready to dry for 24 - 48 hours in their own box. I’ll send you an Amazon link with a list of the tools we used in class so that you can recreate these cookies at home. And of course, you’ll have new skills, memories, and fun!

Can I sign up as an individual or as a group?

You can sign up either as an individual, with a friend, or with a whole group. The more the merrier! We are limited to a total of 25 seats per class, so definitely sign up ASAP!

Where are the classes located?

The class will be helped at The Hibernian Culture Center (80 Magnolia Drive Selden, NY 11784)

I signed up for a class but can't make it?

:( We understand that life happens so that’s why we allow you to cancel up to 7 days before the class. You can always transfer your spot to a friend though (and what a nice friend you are). Any cancelation after the 7 days will not be able to be refunded, however you can pick up a class kit and instructions from me to do the class at your own pace.

Things to Bring

Wondering what you need to bring to have a successful time decorating? Well – nothing’s required – but here’s the things we recommend if you’d like to elevate your experience!

Bring an apron! Things can get messy when you’re workin’ with royal icing – so grab an apron (bonus points if it’s cute – I’ll definitely be asking where you got it).

Bring your glasses! There’s a reference handout to help you decorate, but if things get blurry close up, reading glasses may be a great bet.

Bring your phone! I love it when students take pictures throughout class – so bring a phone!

Bring a mask if you’d like! These classes follow the state health guidelines, but if you’d like to wear a mask throughout class – please do!

Bring a good attitude! Cookies are fun, but they're also challenging! A good attitude makes all the difference.

Cancelation / Refund / Sick Policy

Showing Symptoms Before 7 Days Out:

If you’re sick prior to the 7-day refund cutoff, you can cancel for a full refund! And might we say thank you for quarantining. To request a refund through Eventbrite, follow these steps: https://www.eventbrite.com/help/en-us/articles/721549/can-i-get-a-refund/

Showing Symptoms After 7-Days Out:

For any sickness symptoms prior to your class’s start time but after the 7-day refund policy, please email us before your class’s start time, and we’ll give you a credit for the next class!

You Don't Show Up or Email Prior To Class:

If I do not hear from you before your class’s start time, and you do not show up for class, I won’t be able to offer you a refund or a credit even if you're sick. So please reach out before class if you’re feeling sick!

Allergen Disclaimer / Class Cancelation Policy / Weather Policy / Fees Disclaimer

Allergens: Heads up – these cookies include the following ingredients: Eggs, Milk, Wheat

Please note – these cookies are prepared in a home kitchen that also bakes with common, known allergens: Nuts.

Please consider your allergies before registering.

Class Cancelation Policy: Classes may be canceled at the discretion of me, the event host. This rarely happens – but in that extremely rare event that it does, you’ll receive a 100% refund including your Eventbrite fees.

Classes with attendance below 8 will be canceled. Don’t be sad! You can either get a class credit for a future class (along with my apologies), or a full refund! I’ll let you know if your class has low attendance 3 days before the event is canceled so that you can bring a friend (hint hint) or find other plans for that day.

Weather Policy: Sometimes Jack Frost doesn’t play well with cookie class schedules, and Mother Nature seems to be takin’ notes. In the event of inclement weather, I’ll contact you with options – these may differ depending on the weather event but rest assured – we’ll figure something out!

Eventbrite Fees: Your ticket price includes your ticket fees; however, Eventbrite does not refund its fees. If you cancel your ticket and request a refund prior to the cancelation window expiring, I’ll happily give you a refund less the Eventbrite fee – since I don’t get this fee back either. Eventbrite keeps it regardless of whether you show up or cancel. I know – I hate it too!
